Mari belajar mengexport kereta (Part 1)

Meh kita belajar bagaimana kereta di export.

Mula-mula export department proton akan plan berapa banyak nak diexport to the respective country. Bila diaorg dah tau brapa bijik so diaorg akan call saya. So saya akan plan nak pakai kapal apa..nak transhipment ke tidak..stowage plan cemana..then saya serahkan plan saya ke pihak operasi..the rest they say is history.

So last Sunday saya berpeluang nak lihat planning saya berjaya atau tidak. Loading kereta kat Northport. Saya tak pernah tgk loading kat sana, dulu masa kat Westport tiap hari tgk pasal saya jaga operation kat sana. Mlm tu kena plan export for 302 Proton cars (Savvy,GEN2 & Jumbuck or in Malaysia we call it Arena). 100 will go to Durban and the rest all over Australia. All 302 units sent to Singapore first then respective vessels will take them to Australia and Durban. This we call Transhipment cargo.
Kapal yg akan bawak kereta ni semua is called "Maersk Sun". Kapal ada kat deep water point at 930pm and pilot naik kapal to bring her into the port at 1am so operation starts at 2am, expected to complete latest by 6am.
Sebelum masuk kena amik pass dulu

Jom sembang telor

What is sembang telor? Well some people call it sembang kosong or sembang takde tujuan Anyway a lot of things happened these past few days. Well lets see…Siti finally announced she’s gonna marry this dude by the name of Datuk K. He must be one lucky dude, since he’s gonna marry the number one googled person in Malaysia. I guess rich, old and used married dudes get the chance to marry chicks like Siti. With all that money she has don’t tell me you cant find a bujang fellow?

Finally the management took some action based on the exit interview that I submitted masa nak berenti kerja the other day, I guess there were some changes. The MKB dah kurang datang office to see his girlfriend. I got to know that the COO of the company called these 3 “clown” and basically inquired them on what I wrote in exit interview. I don’t know whether they denied it or admitted to all those allegations but it did rock the boat. My old boss called me up but I told him I was too busy to talk to him. Lagipun what is there to talk about, and he doesn’t have to worry I didn’t mention anything about his affair with one of the staff. I just mentioned that they siphoned a few thousand dollars to buy laptops that they don’t even utilize, acting unprofessional, causing low morale resulting in good people leaving the company plus a few other things. I’m not a bad person but I guess when people treat me bad they have to better watch out. Lagipun kita semua kan carik makan. What right do you have to screw someone else. I guess its good that your uncle is the CEO of the group, I guess if someone else wrote that exit interview nothing much would have been done.

Until next time be nice to your co-workers you never know who they maybe related to.

Peraduan mencarik the infamous MKB. I’ll give you a hint he is the bald one top left corner. Crazy bastard innit?

Medical Checkup and fast cars

Biasanya medical check up ni kena buat before you report for duty. Tapi kat tempat saya kerja I had to do it a week after joining. Kenapa boleh jadik camni? Well the boss totally forgot bout the medical checkup, only lepas your’s truly tanya did he remember.

Well there I was in the doctors office, had to fill in a few forms. Name, address so and and so forth. Then the thing I dread the most, urine test. I’m not a drug user or anything its just that its sometimes hard for me to urinate in those time of need. I told the nurse that I cannot pee at that time can we do the x-ray first? I guess the nurse follows that strict rule that everything has to run by the numbers. “Takpe, minum air suam ni kejap lagi boleh lah tu” ever being so nice. It took me a good 15 minutes before I had the urge to “go”. There I was staring at that empty cup making sure it doesn’t overflow a good thing it didn’t. After taking my urine, off to take my x-ray. Taking x-rays was not a problem, the only thing is that you have to maintain that certain “pose”. Letih lah kengkadang.

After semua tu dah settle, I had to wait for the doctor to call me. After waiting for a good 5 minutes, I entered his room. The doctor was quite old I guess in his 40’s. He asked the same type of questions I guess all doctors do. He asked me pernah buat ECG or not? I don’t even know what an ECG is so I guess since the companies paying for it why not. So there I was all “plugged” up to a machine. I think ECG ni monitors your heart or something related to it. It seems that my heart ni ada slight problem. Nothing major unless I don’t stop smoking. After looking at my x-ray he asked me whether I noticed my spine was agak “senget”.Betul lah my tulang belakang senget skit. He said maybe in the long run it might cause problems. No wonder I have back pains. Besides than this I am okay. Lupa plak I’m overweight, by 10 pounds. If you look at me 10 years back I was skinny as a needle. Things have changed.

2 days back, had a meeting with Naza in Kampung Baru. Kat situ jugak ada show room diaorg. I reached there half an hour early (keluar awal because takut jam). So before going up to the meeting lepak kejap tgk kereta kat show room diaorg. All the cars were high end cars, you had Porches’s, Mercs, Beemers etc I think the cheapest was the Murano RM288k. All imported from Japan. The funny thing is the sales people tak bother datang and do their sales pitch unlike the other car manufacturers. I guess they know the cars on show are way beyond my budget.

Earning my keep

Its my 2nd week on the job. This time I’m better prepared. Last week agak kecoh skit, since baru nak gel with the new environment. I’ve got 2 vessels coming in 2 weeks time. My vessel planning skills have been quite rusty since leaving Westport but should get the hang off it soon. My job also requires me to talk to the HQ people in Tokyo. Nasib baik the people I talk to can speak English, itupun kena cakap slow and steady, If I start to talk laju they all sound so lost. So the best way kena gak cakap slow and steady. Apa nak buat kan?

"yellow pages" company
Dgn siapa saya perlu bercakap

On another note, Italy won the world cup. I was hoping it was France but the “ball is round” instead it was the Azzurri. It was an interesting match, with both teams having an equal chance in possession and chances for goal. Eventually the match went into extra time and France lost to penalties. I never did like matches that was decided that way. Its goodbye to Zidane, Thuram and Makalelee. Without them football would have been very-very boring.

I love checking up on my old work place, its like you have to have your daily fix of “drama swasta”. Kalau tak, kurang ceria hidup ini. The place I work in right now is work..work and work. Theres no time for “surfing” or the occasional chit-chat, for me yang penting the boss understanding. Before I left the old work place I was required to fill up this “exit interview” form. Basically by filling the form up the company wants to be the “employer of choice”. So macam-macam soalan ditanya, like “what could have the management done to keep me?” those type of questions. And theres a small note saying you have to jawab dengan tulus ikhlas (the translation). All my answers were negative. I told them that the management were siphoning money, a few of the management were having affairs and bermacam-macam lagi insiden yang negative. I know its not good to bad mouth your ex-employers but I think its justified. I endured 8 months of pure hell. If you don’t like me why did you employ me. Kan ke bangang nama nya tuuu!!!

Last week pi Perodua plant in Rawang, just to meet the people there. Very impressive, nak amik gambar but rasa not the right time lagipun my boss was around that time. Since the meeting pagi, never had the time to take breakfast. Meeting habis at 1130, so decided to have my breakfast/lunch kat Hentian Sg Buloh. So there I was all alone having a whopper and layan perasaan sorang2, looking at the cars going by and theres no MKB in site…for me its total bliss.

1 Week has passed

Well, 1 week dah berlalu since i started work at the new place.

There wont be any pics since i was too "busy" getting acquanted with the new place. These past 5 days ni, schedule penuh jumpa org. Meeting new faces and renewing old ties. My new job requires me to deal alot with the port, so it was nice meeting the old gang in Westport and Northport. Dapat gak ler bau laut and the smell of vessel fuel.Sungguh menyegarkan. Thought of taking a few pics but was to teruja catching up with old mates.
I'll be dealing a lot with Proton and Perodua, since we handle all export shipments to Australia and Europe so it was quite interesting learning a few new things or too.
I've got tons of things to talk write about. For now my priority is to clear up all those emails in my hotmail. Julia sorry, baru skang ni dapat baca all those emails that you sent me. I guess PLUS Engineers really have a lot of free time on their hands.

7 days and counting

1 more week to go before I leave the office for good. Preparing the stuff for me to hand over, Not much actually cause every assignment or proposal paper has been “taken” over by the MKB. In a way quite glad the leave but at the same time sedih sikit cause I’ll be leaving colleagues who I have gotten quite close to. Anyway like the HR Manager said, “its normal, people come and go” Situation at the office cam tu jugak, no one has the mood to do anything. I guess they can senseSomething just aint right cause key people are leaving.

Eventhough I haven’t officially joined the new company, they have invited me to hang out at the office and all. At least tak ler kekok bila join karang. Which for me is a good thing, the phase of getting to know your new colleagues wont be such a “harrowing” experience. So far the new people are okay, there’s still a barrier. Guess they don’t want to get to “close” to the new boss.

So whats in store for me at the new place. Basically I’ll be overseeing the whole operations and handling Development (like R&D lah). They wanted someone who has handled RORO (Roll on/Roll Off) operations. Since I have experience handled the thing and developed the Ports RORO system, they think I’m the best person to run the whole thing.

So apa itu RORO? RORO stands for Roll on and Roll Off, basically they are ships that carry wheeled cargo such as cars, trailers or anything that has wheels on them. If you want to put them in a container pun boleh but if you have many cars then the best way is via a RORO vessel. I will be handling the large new car-carriers which are known as Pure Car Carriers (PCC’s) and the Pure Car Truck Carriers (PCTS’s). The largest PCC that the company has is the the MV Cougar Ace. Cant wait to work on her.

"Epidemic" in the office and at home

Lately ni tido tak cukup, lebih-lebih lagi bila dah letak surat nak berenti. From 9pm to 5am the TV is mine. My wife memang dah paham dengan my perangai so without telling her she would watch the other TV in my study/office/gaming room. To catch up on sleep I would sleep during lunch time, 1-2 hours sleep is fine with me. Head back home after dinner take another short nap around 30minits can last me for the next 8 hours. Its not just me, the office is full of “zombies”. Men walking around the office with bags under their eyes. I guess no one is complaining since this “epidemic” only happens every 4 years. When I was working in the port, the management had to put TV’s in the cafeteria just to keep the workers happy if not productivity might be effected. At the end of the day everyone is happy.

Mereka yg tak cukup tido

Watched the England V Trinidad & Tobago match last nite. By the way they were playing I doubt they would win the Cup. It could just have ended in a draw. I wanted England to loose and I would love to see what the British Media would write the next morning. The British Media suka hype lebih. Bukan tak bagus, but sometimes they just over do it. I noticed that a lot of Malaysian’s support England but I guess cause kita dijajah by them and a lot of us are went to British Uni’s and we love to watch the EPL.

Mereka yg menang cabutan bertuah

There’s another “epidemic” going round the office. So far there are 4 people who will be leaving the company (including me). In the coming weeks more will follow. The funny thing is these people are not the clerks or executives. The Heads of Departments are all packing their bags. I guess they lost confidence in the top management. “Too much interference from the top” that’s what they say, “Unrealistic target” another one butted in, “The people on top not focused” someone said, “They appointed someone with no knowledge of the industry” another added. Frankly speaking I doubt the company can achieve that target and I don’t see the direction the company is going. One thing I learnt during my time here is “Office Politics 101” and I failed miserably. What do you expect from a nice guy like me?

Wednesday, June 14, 2006

still the same old thing

The first half of the day was spent out side of the office. To be precise spent half of the day in my new office. Every thing was in place, except for the laptop which they asked me to find. Discussed a lot of things with my new employer, seems like a nice guy and very receptive to new ideas. But looks can be deceiving, and I don’t want to memuji lebih takut hampa di kemudian hari.

So after spending like 2 hours discussing things, I decided to go to Sunway Pyramid to look for the lap top. Budget given was RM5k, for me that’s a lot. After looking high and low akhirnya jumpa jugak the lap top that interested me. Being the nice guy, I decided to go for a Compaq plus I bought one of those printers that has everything (scanner, printer etc). Total cost RM 4,100.00. Untungnya my employer, dapat pekerja yang pandai berjimat cermat

Anyway after having lunch at McDonalds terus head back to the office. Bila tengok my workstation terus rasa boring and malas. What do you expect from someone yang nak resign? I guess I’ll kill the time by reading other peoples blog.

what went on?

Its been quite sometime since I posted anything…well these are the things that have been going on since the last post.

1. Resigning from my current job
Finally was able to give my letter to the boss.No counter offer (which didn’t surprise me) but wished me all the best. The MKB called me into the office and both of us gave a piece of each others mind. He called me an ungrateful worker and I told him he is full of bull shit. So everyone is happy

2. The world cup
Its that time of year again, not enough sleep but well worth it.I’m supporting Holland. 1st game diaorg menang and I hope they win the cup

3. My wife still sakit
She is down with the mumps, muka macam kena pam.Everyday whining. Being the suami misali, her every whim the husband kena layan.

4. The car still belum service
Don’t know when I’m going to do it. Nak berenti ni pun still a lot of pending work to do.

Nak ambik ke tidak?

This maybe my last month in the company. The Japanese Company has offered me the SCM job.Diaorg personally delivered the offer to me last Saturday.Quite surprised cause tak pernah org hantar offer letter personally, usually they ask you to ambik the offer or they post it to you.

After going through the offer with my wife, all I can say is if kalau tolak memang rugi. The pay and perks that I demanded were all in the offer letter. The only thing is they want me to report for duty on the 3rd of July.

There is a 90% chance that I may take the offer, mainly because of the pay and the traveling involved. Tapi saying plak nak tinggalkan my current job because the job is so “relaxed” since no one nak “kacau” but that’s the reality when you’re already in a “cold storage” department

Mari membeli rumah

Seperti manusia yang lain, saya juga ingin memiliki property saya sendiri.Rancangan ni dah lama saya bincang dengan isteri saya, dan selalunya dia buat tak tau jer.Maybe tak minat nak beli rumah lagi kot.

Anyway last Sunday my wife ajak pegi Bandar Seri Putra Family Day,which diaorg buat just near our apartment, since dekat we all semua jalan kaki.

The developer had everything for everyone, games untuk budak-budak,free food for me and houses to look at for my wife.I guess everyone got what they wanted, which includes my wife.Suprisingly she found her dream house and is in the process of buying it.Well as for me….my “headache” will start when we move in.

Nak pi tengok rumah kena minum dulu

Mereka yang nak membeli rumah & makan free

Melukis,makan dan berkelah

Mereka-mereka yang nak bagi pinjam duit beli rumah

For the time being kitaorg duduk kat sini jer

Observing those "precious" hours

Apa itu log book? Menurut Websters Revised Unabridged Dictionary (c) 1996,1998

Log book ,or Logbook (Naut),a book in which is entered the daily progress of a ship at sea,as indicated by the log, with notes on the weather and incidents of the voyage;the contents of the log book.

Di tempat kerja saya sekarang, things are getting quite merepek dan merapek. The management has decided to introduce penggunaan sebuah log book.Mereka berpendapat that the staff have too many free time for themselves. I wonder what other wacky things they are going to think of next?.

So how does this thing work?Well..for every hour semua employee kena record whatever they do,so I assume pegi toilet pun kena remark in the log book.1 log book will be given for every month so ada 12 log books for a year, banyak tu.

My 2 cents on this? For me the company is going through a restructuring phase so I guess by having a log book management boleh "tahu" siapa yang "kerja" and "tak kerja".If its going to be like this,i guess a lot of people might just be heading for the door.

please tick when done.....

Another new day, another new challenge and the same old sh#t.They say if you want to be successful in life or whatever you do you have to plan it correctly (notice how many ‘you’ I use in a sentence?).Kalau nak melaksanakan project kena ada checklist betul kan?

My daily life or routine pun ada checklist or whatever you want to call it lah….

Daily Check list (pls mark √ kalau dah buat)

1.Bangun pagi
2.drive to work
3.Send wife to office
4.stuck in jam
5.reach the office
6.go out of the office for breakfast (ni wajib)
7.reenter the office
8.Log on to network
9.Check emails
10.Check own blog
11.Check other peoples blog
12.Pretend to be busy
13.Kacau secretary
14.Go out for lunch
15.During lunch time make a point
of “mengutuk” management
16.Come back from lunch
17.Proceed to the Surau for Zohor prayers
(usually dah nak abis waktu)
18.Merapu with your colleagues
19.Again pretend to be busy
20.Check email
21.Check own blog
22.Check other peoples blog
23.Prepare nak balik
24.Drive back home
25.Sangkut slight jam
(not as bad as the morning one)
26.Pick up wife
27.Listen to her problems (this one wajib)
28.Reach home
29.Ambik daughter at nursery
30.Bukak pintu
31.Kena kluar balik cause the wife forgot to
defrost the ayam (optional)
32.Pegi makan at the nearest warung or
fast food joint (optional)
33.drive back home
34.Mandi
35.Tido

This checklist can be used berulang-ulang kali and can be adjusted to suit your working environment. My checklist panjang because the management of the company is very "efficient".

Tapi in my organization we don’t have a check list because the management here comprise of many-many bijak pandai people. That’s why the 1st quarter target belum lagi achieve (we are way off target), we employ consultants to improve the work process and the management are busy “bercinta”.

Man I just “love” my work place.

Does this happen to you?

Dolphins and a Cow

Nothing much to write but got this email from an old friend.

The email goes like this.......

BACA DAHULU SEBELUM TENGOK GAMBAR

Temensys,Chichla Temenis,Traffic jam and Strawberry Jam

Akhirnya,my side project has become a reality. All those years of complaining, suffering (okay lah not that suffered) and just finding the right people for the project has materialized. Temensys can now officially “fly”. Its going to be a long and winding road but no one said its going to be easy. The important thing the first step dah settle. Apa jadahnya Temensys ni?

Why Temensys? 2 of my partners are fly fishing freaks.Hidup diaorg memang memancing so they decided on the name plus the other names were not approved and we dont want it to sound that technical. Temensis ni sebenornya ikan yang bernama peacock bass and part of the cichlids family.Ikan jenis ni agak brutal (predatory fish).Thats why we agreed on the name. Don’t worry we all tak brutal, especially me.

Chichla Temensis

Chichla Temensis yg baru ditangkap

Hari ni sampai office reaaaalllllyyyy late. Why? Its all because of the traffic jam.Memang tiap-tiap hari jam but today was the worst. Usually sangkut round 15 to 30 minits then masuk NPE where its smooth sailing all the way,but today 1km after the Sg Besi Toll dah start sangkut. Reason for the jam?An accident that happened like 20-30km infront of me.I reached the office an hour and a half later.I noticed that traffic jam ni berlaku if theres and accident (even if its on the other lane) or if it starts to rain or sudah hujan. You can build 10 lanes pun I think traffic jams will happen.Repair jalan pun jam.Sometimes kereta or motor rosak tepi jalan pun jam.

Do you think by carpooling things would change?I doubt it,why?Do you think all those big shots who drive their Merc and Beemers (BMW) nak car pool?

Do you think by improving the public transportation things would change? In the long run maybe, but they have to improve on the scheduling etc.Dont want to reach the office late do we?

Time to move on?

Seperti hari-hari yang lain,I would get an email from Group Corporate Communication on the daily media coverage of the company.Usually I would just delete them but hari ni kena baca pasal agak kecoh in the office this morning. It seems that Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahya said that the CEO’s of several top GLC’s who did not perform just put in their letter and let somebody else run the show.

It has been known that amongst the 15 largest GLC’s 4 had suffered losses last year.

They are :

Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd
Malaysian Airlines Systems Bhd
UEM World Bhd
Proton Holdings Bhd

I belong to one of them, and agak risau when you hear that your boss maybe replaced because he is found incompetent.I worry that when management changes a lot of other things will follow suit. I’ve been through merges and takeovers and its not a pretty sight. You don’t know whats going to happen to you. You don’t need to see where you will be 10 years down the road. Next year pun tak tau untung nasib macamana.

Last week got a call from headhunter who represents this Japanese corporation. They were looking for a supply chain management “expert”. It seems that I fit the bill and wanted me to attend this interview/sessi beramah mesra jumaat ni. The offer they tabled was quite “tempting”.

Lets see how things go this Friday……….maybe I might just take it.

Another Monday another brand new week

It’s a brand new day of a brand new week, sejak my streamyx went dead and the kelembapan of TM Net suruh repair the damn thing. I haven’t been able to be online like before. To venture into cyberland kena lah pegi Starbucks or any other place that provides free wireless service.
Izhal if you’re reading this, theres one near your future house.

So lets see what happened during the weekend…..

In the world of sports, Abg Henry finally signed a new 4 year contract.Kepada supporter Barcelona or whoever wanted to buy him, mintak maaf bebanyak but he just aint interested.

Contract dah sign..so wheres the Pepsi?

Menurut Abg Henry

"The game reassured me of one thing I wanted to know - how far I can go with that team,” kata Abg Henry lagi. “I know we lost but they showed me they are a team with heart and lots of quality. We can be so proud of what we did.”

“There were other things that made me stay — my family, London, the fans here and away from home, the press, everyone. All those little things help to make my mind up.

"I always refer to Arsenal as my home. I have been welcomed with open arms, the love I receive here - sometimes from non-Arsenal fans - is something I can't forget about."

So there you have it ladies and gents Thierry Henry will still wear the number 14 jersey next season.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus relegated to Serie B?

Nampak gayanya the old lady of Turin will be playing in Serie B.

The Luciano Moggi scandal has more twist and turns than the soap opera days of our lives. Moggi has had to resign at Juve and is facing charges ranging from intimidation to kidnapping and criminal conspiracy. Juventus meanwhile stand accused of sporting fraud, as beneficiaries of what police have dubbed the "Moggi System". This consists of assigning friendly referees for Juve games, finding unfriendly ones for their rivals, and making sure future opponents were "softened up" with judicious use of the red card. Forty-one people in total are being investigated, including senior officials at two other Serie A clubs, Lazio and Fiorentina, both of whose phone transcripts appear to show them "signing up" for the Moggi System. They and Juventus now stand a real chance of being relegated.

Shortlived celebration?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lagi-Lagi GLC

On a rather serious note, the company I’m working for is one of the 5 GLC companies not performing.Aisehhhh in the news lagi.Hate it when friends ask me “ehhh watched the news ahh, your company not performing…loss teruk gak ahh?” Aisehh friend I work there only, what to do if theres too many “smart” people running the company?

Finally....

Yasmin sakit gigi..or gusi or both. Her gigi geraham nak tumbuh kot.The ever concerned Mother telah bawak the in pain daughter to the clinic. The father decided to stay in the car cause he was wearing shorts only and segan to enter the clinic yang penuh ngan pompuan-pompuan.So terpaksa lah mendengar leteran from the mother all the way home

Babah..Hana cakit gigi

Perbezaan P.E.P.S.I dengan air PEPSI

When you work in a troubled environment and don’t know how to improve things, your management would appoint consultants to think of ways to improve things that cannot be improved. The other day the consultant talked about P.E.P.S.I not air pepsi.

P=PRODUCTIVITY & PROFITABILITY IMPROVING
E=EXPANSION & BUSINESS GROWTH
P=PEOPLE & ORGANISATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
S=SYSTEMS & PROCESS IMPROVEMENT
I=IMAGE ENHANCEMENT OF COMPANY

Dengan adanya PEPSI ni,the company will “unlock the hidden value, recognize the talent and capitilise on new areas of opportunity”.Sometimes I wonder, kenapa baru sekarang diaorg nak pikir benda-benda ni?

Minum bila dahaga

Kings Of Europe (dlm ada air Pepsi)

Barcelona won the Champions League, agak sedih cause Arsenal lost but not that devastated cause I support both teams. Congrats to Barcelona who won the match and the future looks bright at arsenal.Eventhough kalah but small margin. If Lehmann wasn’t sent off I think the gunners could have won the match.

Before game, kena main bunga api dulu

Abg Lehmann kena buang padang pasal amik air pepsi org

Abg Henry suruh Abg Lehmann pakai otak next time

The 1st goal and Abg Sol running to get his Pepsi

The goal that ended it all

Still looking for his Pepsi

Looking forward to next season, I hope Henry signs a new contract and Arsenal winning the Championship.

This would be me if i were in Paris..
